International Leadership Development Programme (ILDP)

The International Leadership Development Programme (ILDP), offered in collaboration with the Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSETA), is a prestigious leadership development initiative. It aims to equip senior managers and executives in the wholesale and retail sector with advanced leadership skills and global business insights.

This programme was designed to increase the talent pipeline of highly promotable, historically disadvantaged leaders earmarked for senior or executive positions.

The W&RSETA has been contributing to accelerating the development of leaders in the Wholesale and Retail Sector through the International Leadership Development Programme (ILDP).

Programme information

The ILDP includes a range of leadership and business management courses, focusing on areas such as strategic management, leadership in a global context, and innovation in the retail sector. The programme is designed to challenge participants and foster critical thinking and leadership excellence.

Course Options

These intensive programmes will be delivered through local study blocks in Cape Town and Johannesburg by the University of Cape Town: Graduate School of Business (GSB) and each respective programme of this ILDP includes local and international immersions.

Advanced Diploma in Management Development
(ADMP) NQF7

Develop a strategic perspective and acumen to navigate diverse business challenges.
Capped with the Strategy and Innovation Lab, participants foster innovation, devise transformative strategies, and lead their organisations towards sustainable growth in today's dynamic global landscape.

Postgraduate Diploma in Management Practice
(PGDIP) NQF8

Equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experiences needed to excel in their chosen fields. It offers a unique blend of theory and practice, preparing graduates for the rapidly evolving job market.

International Executive Development Programme
(IEDP PGDIP) NQF8

Addressing the unique challenges and complexities faced by top-level executives in the industry. It's specifically tailored to individuals who hold senior positions within their organisations, and it recognises the need for high-impact leadership at this level.

Who is the Programme For?

The prestigious International Leadership Development Programme (ILDP) is aimed at accelerating the development of participants from historically disadvantaged groups in line with the Employment Equity Act.  Companies are encouraged to prioritise:

  •  Africans
  • Women
  • Participants with disabilities.

Eligibility and Nomination

Candidates must be nominated by their companies and should hold a senior management position within the wholesale and retail sector. Companies must ensure that nominees meet the programme's stringent eligibility criteria.

Only W&RSETA registered companies are eligible to nominate candidates for the programme.

  • Large companies are eligible to nominate up to 5 candidates
  • Medium companies up to 2 candidates and
  • Small companies can nominate 1 candidate

Companies are NOT allowed to nominate more than the prescribed number of candidates.

Outcomes and Benefits for Participants

The ILDP exposes delegates to best practice in leadership as well as wholesale and retail practices locally and internationally. The programme boasts an alumni of over 400 senior leaders who are making remarkable strides in advancing the sector and positioning wholesale and retail as a lucrative career proposition.

Participants in the ILDP with W&RSETA will:

This programme equips participants with the tools and knowledge to become transformative leaders in the retail sector.

Since its inception, the ILDP has been instrumental in the promotion of over 200 delegates with several assuming additional responsibilities in their portfolios. Delegates have been promoted to positions of directors, general managers, executives, managing directors, chief financial officers, and have been appointed to executive committees of retail companies. Others have pursued entrepreneurial opportunities starting their own businesses which are contributing to the growth of the country.

  • Proven middle management experience of 5-10 years
  • Earmarked for senior management through the company’s talent pipeline
