Assoc Prof Janine Mukuddem-Petersen
Associate Professor Janine Mukuddem-Petersen has served as a practitioner and an academic with teaching-learning, research and management duties. She has chaired several research related committees at various universities. She has experience in undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing and supervision as well as postdoctoral mentorship. She is a co-founder of the Economic Modelling and Econometric Research Group (EMERG) that later evolved into a registered company.
A seasoned academic and researcher, Mukuddem-Petersen has won several research awards and has published approximately 100 internationally peer-reviewed books, book chapters, journal articles and conference proceedings papers in the areas of economic modelling, financial optimisation, econometrics and institutional regulation. In the last decade, she has served as a practitioner and co-worker on major consultancy projects for the financial services industry. She is a member of the editorial board of open access journal, as well as a regular referee and reviewer for several prominent internationally peer-reviewed journals and reviewing agencies.
Mukuddem-Petersen’s research interests are related to the nexus between capital, leverage, risk, credit crunches and procyclicality in small, medium and large financial institutions, with a particular interest in bank regulation and the capitalisation of globally systemically important banks. Prior to her appointment at the UCT GSB, Mukuddem-Petersen was a postdoctoral fellow at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam and a professor at North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus.
