Dr Thabo Makgoba
Archbishop Dr Thabo Makgoba is the Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, South Africa.
Archbishop Makgoba has a doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Cape Town, a Higher Diploma in Education Science, a MEd in Educational Psychology and a BSc degree from Witwatersrand University. Formerly he was the Bishop of Suffragan (2002) and Bishop of Grahamstown Diocese (2004). Since 2008, He took up his current role as Anglican Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa: encompassing 28 dioceses across Angola, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, and the island of St. Helena.
He is the Chair of the Anglican Communion Environmental Network, and Former Commissioner of the Press Freedom Commission. Since 2012, Archbishop Makgoba has been the Chancellor of the University of the Western Cape.
He has been the recipient of many awards and honours over the years, including: Cross of St. Augustine, Archbishop of Canterbury; Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa, General Theological Seminary, Episcopal Church, NY (2009); Doctor of Divinity, jure dignitatis, Huron University College, Ontario (2013); Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Scholarship. Additionally, Archbishop Makgoba is a Procter Fellow, EDS, Cambridge, USA, as well as an Adjunct Professor at Graduate School of Business over many years.
