Remembering Faried Shariff
9 January 1976 - 6 July 2024
It is with a heavy heart that I write this tribute to our friend, confidant and classmate. Faried excelled professionally, academically, and socially. He had an amazing positivity in almost every situation and his laughter was infectious.
Whilst reflecting on some of the moments we shared with Faried as friends and classmates I was reminded of the MBA syndicate group moments where Faried was always the person who remained the calmest on the surface regardless as to what situation he was faced with. He taught many of us valuable lessons in life, including that we should never delay living life to the fullest. Faried also had an ability to turn any gathering into a memorable occasion. He was a true networker and definitely influenced us to relax a lot during our time at business school by influencing us to do plenty of snacking and chatting!
Following graduation from GSB, Faried continued to be successful in his career and maintain genuine friendships with a number of classmates. He was also inspired by travel and loved sharing stories of his experiences. He took pride in his work with the City of Cape Town and it was evident in how he continued to achieve well. Faried was a constant source of support, making even the most challenging times more manageable. He was someone a person could call at anytime and he would always offer guidance and support to classmates and friends. He always showed kindness and had a very unique way of making everyone feel included.
Faried leaves a very strong and lasting impression in many of our lives, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have known him. His legacy will live on through the countless ways he touched out lives.
Carmen (Faried’s incredible wife), and their kids, Tara and Aidan, will continue to have our friendship and support.
Rest in peace, dear friend, confidant and classmate. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Your memory will forever live in our hearts, and your spirit will continue to inspire us in all that we do.
