The University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB) is proud to announce that its Executive MBA (EMBA) programme was selected as a finalist for the prestigious Evidence-Based Leadership Development (EBLD) Program Award by the Management Education and Development (MED) Division of the Academy of Management (AOM). This award recognizes high-quality academic programmes that promote the adoption of high EBLD standards.
The AOM’s MED Division is dedicated to advancing research, education, and practice in management education and development. Its primary purpose is to foster professional scholarship in these fields among Academy of Management members. The EBLD Program Award, now in its second year, highlights programmes that exemplify the highest standards in evidence-based leadership development.
“While we did not win the award in 2024, we are honoured to be recognized by the MED Division of the Academy of Management,” said Dr. Camille Meyer, Programme Director of the GSB’s EMBA. “The nomination reflects our commitment to developing leaders who are equipped not only with advanced management knowledge but also with the ability to apply evidence-based practices in real-world settings.”
The UCT GSB’s EMBA programme is designed for senior managers and executive leaders who seek to enhance their ability to conceptualise complex challenges rather than focusing solely on functional management skills. The programme emphasizes a holistic approach to leadership, integrating various perspectives and strategies to build sustainable and resilient organisations.
The UCT GSB EMBA programme is renowned for its holistic approach to leadership development, of which EBLD plays a key role. The programme emphasises the felt experience of being in management to foster authentic engagement, and is designed to develop the capacity to integrate multiple perspectives and strategies for holistic decision-making.
The award nomination underscores the UCT GSB’s leadership in integrating evidence-based principles into its curriculum. These principles include establishing clear goals, fostering a culture of continuous learning, engaging diverse perspectives, and prioritizing both organizational and individual well-being.
The recipient of the MED EBLD Programme Award in 2023 was the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business, and the 2024 award went to Ivey Business School of Western University. The UCT GSB offers its warmest congratulations to these esteemed institutions and relishes the opportunity to learn, improve, and push the boundaries of leadership education.
