Curriculum Overview

Module 1
  • Understand and apply strategic thinking and planning frameworks and tools in your organisation
  • Engage effectively in a strategic conversation of relevance to the organisation
  • Build and communicate a strategic plan
  • Address the latest trends and challenges facing organisations
  • Identify how to strengthen the organisation's business model
  • Create and prioritise strategic options effectively
  • Sharpen the value proposition and value delivery system
  • Build organisational resilience
  • Influence strategic decision-making
  • Be able to implement strategy effectively
Module 2
  • Open participants’ eyes to the challenges of real-world strategic decision making
  • Be sensitised to the scale and likelihood of value destruction and/or opportunities missed
  • Have their mindset challenged / changed regarding what constitutes decision quality
  • Gain a deeper appreciation for the differences between instinct, intuition and insight
  • Have first-hand experiences of one’s own susceptibility to cognitive biases and a greater appreciation for their significance
  • Learn some basic techniques to counteract cognitive biases
  • Understand the solution requirements for high quality strategic decision making
Module 3

The module gets students to think critically about:

  • The impact of beliefs, mental models and biases on their ability to engage commercial reality
  • What commercial value is
  • Where it is sourced, designed and enabled
  • The relationship between value and strategy
  • Pre-empting and dealing with emerging disruption
  • The difference between strategy problems and growth problems

Minimum Requirements:

  • National Senior Certificate, NQF 4 or equivelant
  • English proficiency
  • 3 years work experience

The UCT GSB's Breakwater Campus is situated in the heart of Cape Town's most popular tourist attraction, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Centrally located and easily accessed, the UCT GSB is just 1.5km away from the central business district and 20 minutes from Cape Town International Airport.

As an added benefit to studying at the UCT GSB, you'll be situated in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. 

Certificate of completion

Flights & accommodation costs are not included.

The course is a non-credit-bearing course delivered at the equivalent of an NQF 8 postgraduate level of study.
The course is accredited through UCT, which is a registered public higher education institution with the Council on Higher Education (CHE). Each programme is accredited through an internal UCT quality assurance process, as delegated by the CHE, ensuring the excellent quality of our offering.
In short, this course does not refer to NQF levels.
